Trade Shows and new technology

The recent national trade show in Las Vegas last week had a lot of amazing new technologies and items. While I did not attend, I was paying attention of much of this. Coming down the pike are some really big improvements and a commercially available bidirectional EV charging station. This ability has been around for a while, but the car manufacturers have not kept up with the inverter manufacturers to make this work. SolrEdge has had one ready and was really just waiting. It looks like in the next few months, these might be hitting the market. This can be a significant improvement for a home battery for daily use and emergencies. Considering most car batteries are 50-120kWh in size, this is huge for a home. It also gives the ability to do what is called peak shaving on the grid, and possibly gives you money for the use of a percentage of your battery during peak demand times. In other states, this is already done, and people are getting good payback times for their battery purchase.
Another new item will be SolarEdge new Nexus inverters and batteries, which are now stackable and modular. The backup interface will be part of your electric meter, which will make whole-home backup a lot easier and cheaper to wire. Modular design will let you get started with a small battery and grow to up to over 250kWh system. Stay tuned…..
